Hello, I’m John Paul Barrett. I am a fine art painter based in Leigh-on-Sea, UK. I specialise in mixed media paintings, using acrylics and oil pastels to create texture and perspective.
My style is unique and vivid in terms of texture and colour, two strong elements to my work which are quite consistent. I use acrylic paint mixed with extra heavy medium gel and palette knife to create a sculpted and textured appearance, and then the finishing layer with oil pastel on top of that.
I studied fine art and psychology in London and worked in performance arts for a while. After moving to Leigh-on-Sea in 2021, I was able to dedicate myself to painting full-time.
My big influences are Maurice de Vlaminck, Stelios Faitakis, Carlo Carrá, Kandinsky, Van Gogh, August Macke, Emil Nolde, and Georges Rouault. I love to paint different subjects and themes, including symbolism, figurative subjects, portraits and scenery.
